Metadata Management Tools: Introduction to MarcEdit

Do you want to do more with your MARC records? Are you looking for an easy way to add or delete fields, split a batch of records into several groups, or extract particular fields to create a report? This class will walk you through how to do all of these tasks and more, starting with the basics of how to download and install the free MarcEdit software. This class is part of a three part series entitled Metadata Management Tools: Micro-Credentialing.

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze purpose and uses of metadata
  • Outline components and needs of a successful metadata standard
  • XML
  • Identify three types of markup
  • List rules for well-formed XML

Target Audience:
Catalogers, archivists digital project managers or anyone needing an overview of metadata.

Prerequisites:
None

Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements:

  • Requirements for completion include completing a well-formed XML exercise and viewing either the live session or the recording.
  • It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
