Student Engagement Librarian -- University of Central Arkansas -- Conway, AR

Position Summary
Torreyson Library at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) seeks an enterprising, innovative, and collaborative individual with a passion for public engagement and service to students to join the library as our Student Engagement Librarian. The successful candidate in this position will provide leadership and relationship development in the area of student engagement. This position works closely with Public Services and Education and Outreach departments to ensure that the library is welcoming, accessible, and fosters a sense of belonging. They will also be an active member of the library instruction team, focusing particularly on online learning. The person in this position also takes part in the reference services and rotation.

This will be a library faculty appointment. Faculty librarians have the right to choose with the initial appointment whether to accept tenure-track or non-tenure-track status. Those who select tenure-track status will have a higher expectation for service and scholarship, including having an earned second master’s degree. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist with training of public services staff.
  • Provide in-person and remote reference, and assist in other front line services including circulation, interlibrary loan, and technology services to all users of the library.
  • Create and maintain library research guides and FAQs, utilizing LibGuides.
  • Builds partnerships and proactively engages with departments and user communities across the university, working with them to identify and develop meaningful activities that engage students and create a sense of belonging with a particular eye to marginalized, underrecognized, and disenfranchised populations.
  • Provide support and current information on trends and tools that support student engagement, accessibility, and online learning.
  • Collaborates on promoting awareness of the changing landscape of accessibility and online learning.
  • Collaborates to create engagement activities and online learning objects.
  • Monitors developments in student engagement and accessibility, with a particular eye toward creating welcoming environments with a sense of belonging, and communicates their implications to the Library and University stakeholders.
  • Keeps current with changing and emerging professional and research expectations, service requirements, and developments in academic libraries, especially developments in student engagement, accessibility issues, and online learning.
  • Participates in regional, national, and international communities of practice where appropriate.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • MLS or other appropriate ALA-accredited master’s degree
  • Supervisory experience

Preferred Education and/or Experience
Prior work in Public Services, Instruction, or both
