Let Amigos Help with Your Custom Cataloging Needs

Amigos Custom Cataloging Service can supplement your library's in-house staff and provide additional expertise in areas where your staff is limited. Cataloging is performed via OCLC Connexion by library professionals. Our staff can produce various types of cataloging projects such as trade print, audiovisual, and maps to special collections and original or copy cataloging. Amigos Custom Metadata Service provides additional expertise in encoding and conforming finding aids to the current schema, and transforming them to HTML.

Custom cataloging can help libraries reveal hidden collections, supplement staff expertise and catch-up on backlogs. Completed projects include:

The American Joint Jewish Distribution Committee, New York City
The American Joint Jewish Distribution Committee contacted Amigos seeking help with editing its Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) stylesheets. After discussing their needs in depth, Amigos was able to edit their stylesheets to enable the HTML output they needed.

The Mid-Continent Public Library, Independence, MO
The library had acquired a major collection of topographic maps for the Missouri/Kansas/Nebraska region, as well as a large number of maps from around the US and Europe, in a variety of Western European languages. The project took several months and involved both original and copy cataloguing. It included the assignment of subject headings, determinations of scale, assignment of Dewey numbers, and descriptive abstracts. Delivery and receipt of the materials was arranged with the library's technical services department.

Newman University, Wichita, KS
The university had a number of theses and graduate research papers from their nursing program that had never been catalogued. They mailed photocopies of title pages, last numbered pages, and abstracts. Descriptive and subject access portions of the original records were created from that information.
