Book displays are a prime example of the creative – practical mindset that guides many areas of library work. In keeping with that dual mindset, this session explores both the creative evolution (getting to that bodacious display) and the practical considerations (we’re professionals, after all) that occur in the book display process. With creativity and curiosity at the forefront, uncover methods for finding theme ideas, curating the book list, and assembling the display, as well as some strategies to offset practical challenges like limited resources, burnout, and other roadblocks. This session is suitable as both an introduction for book display beginners and a refresher for those with more experience and will conclude with a live demo of the instructor’s book display workflow in FOLIO.
Instructor(s)
Abigail Manis is the library goblin, pun pundit, and Acquisitions Coordinator of Lindenwood University Library. The last one is her actual job title, but the first two are closer to the spirit of her role. Abby’s special skills involve spouting obscure historical facts, finding lost books, coming up with book display ideas, and knowing where all the light switches are. In her free time, you will find her learning Spanish, knitting, checking her Libby holds, or attempting to befriend the crows in her area.
