Metadata Standards and Types

Metadata can be guided by different kinds of standards, including content, value, format, and exchange. And, at the same time, there are different types of metadata - descriptive, technical, structural, administrative and more. Understanding how standards are developed, those commonly used today, and the types of metadata and their applications helps support the creation, management, and exchange of metadata across systems. Additional coverage addresses XML DTDs and schemas, well-formed and valid XML, and strategies for reading and interpreting metadata standards.

This course is the second of four courses required to earn the Metadata Principles and Practices micro-credential and should be taken after Metadata Basics.
