Relationships are essential in metadata - linking between related resources or parts that make up a whole, keeping metadata linked with the resources it describes, adding meaning and context to resources, and fostering discovery across resources. Learn how Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS) help maintains links between metadata and the resources it describes; how the Semantic Web, RDF, and Linked Data express relationships between entities to support aggregation and discovery; and how the Bibliographic Framework (BIBFRAME) applies RDF principles and may serve as a successor to MARC 21.
This course is the final course in the Metadata Principles and Practices micro-credential pathway and should be taken after completing the preceding three courses.

Elliot Williams is the Metadata Strategist at the University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries and Museums. He has more than 12 years of experience working in metadata and cataloging at academic libraries, previously having worked at the University of Miami and Texas Digital Library. Elliot has masters' degrees in information studies from the University of Texas and history from the University of Miami.
