A workshop developed to strengthen librarians interpersonal communication skills with faculty, staff, and patrons in informal settings like receptions or impromptu meetings. Topics discussed include self-introductions, making small talk, preparing to pitch the library’s services, and entering and exiting small group conversations at events. Targeted techniques and methods are customized by the attendees for their environment. Attendees practice these concepts through structured activities.

Learning objectives for this session include
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
  • Introduce themselves in a variety of settings
  • Write an elevator speech
  • Use the "OAR" technique when making conversation
