Description
The Collections & Electronic Resources Librarian manages Moffett Library’s physical and electronic collections. This position oversees the collections budget, purchasing, subscriptions, vendors, and access to electronic resources, and works with faculty and library staff to make sure the collection supports the needs of MSU students and academic programs.
Examples
Manages the library’s collections budget and expenditures. Selects and purchases print and electronic resources. Manages subscriptions, renewals, invoices, and standing orders. Works with vendors and publishers on pricing, contracts, licensing, and resource access. Sets up and maintains access to databases, e-journals, e-books, and other electronic resources. Maintains electronic resource information in OCLC and other library systems. Troubleshoots access issues and works with vendors, OCLC, Campus IT, and others as needed. Reviews usage, cost, and other collection data to help guide purchasing and renewal decisions. Evaluates the collection and identifies needs, gaps, and areas for improvement. Coordinates collection maintenance and weeding. Works with faculty and library staff to support academic programs, accreditation, instruction, and research. Maintains documentation for collection, purchasing, vendor, and electronic resource processes. Participates in library planning, assessment, committees, and other library activities as needed.
Physical Condition
Experience
Experience in an academic library. Experience with collection development, acquisitions, electronic resources, vendors, budgets, or library management systems. Experience with OCLC WorldShare Management Services or a similar library management system
Knowledge
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Education
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
*Candidates currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS program with the expectation of completing the degree will be considered as a Collections and Electronic Resources Specialist.
Additional Requirements
Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to work under pressure. Must maintain current professional and technical knowledge through on-going reading, training, and participation in professional organizations.
