Generative AI is rapidly changing how library users search for and discover information. On September 8, 2026, NISO's Open Discovery Initiative (ODI) will present The Effect of Generative AI on Library Discovery, a webinar examining how AI-enhanced discovery tools are reshaping access to library resources.
As generative AI capabilities are incorporated into discovery layers, databases, and aggregator platforms, libraries face new questions about instruction, resource access, and user expectations. This webinar will explore how these evolving technologies are influencing the research process and what they may mean for the future of library discovery services.ODI co-chair Ken Varnum will moderate a conversation with Sarah Barbrow (University of Michigan), Sima Bloch-Winkler (Ex Libris), Robert Hilliker (Springer Nature), and Alfred Wallace (Iowa State University).
Amigos members are NISO Library Standards Alliance (LSA) members and may attend this webinar at no cost. The LSA member benefit includes access to NISO's educational webinarprogram, unlimited participation in NISO Working Groups/Standing Committees, and discounted registration for all non-webinar events, including the annual NISO Plus conference.
