Registration closes April 21 for Book Repair Basics, an in-person workshop for Amigos members taking place on Wednesday, April 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Austin Public Library.
Preservation expert Rebecca Elder will guide participants through foundational repair techniques for paper and books, including surface cleaning, mending, tipping in pages, hinge tightening, and corner repair. The session will also cover how to set up a repair workspace, introduce common book repair terminology, and discuss when it is appropriate to engage a conservator.
Participants are required to bring at least three hardcover books to use for hands-on practice. A $75 supply fee is required. Additional details and preparation requirements are available on the Amigos website.
