Effective interlibrary loan (ILL) policies adhere to national guidelines, while communicating clear procedures for staff and patrons with some flexibility to accommodate diverse user needs. Whether authoring a first formal interlibrary loan policy or updating existing procedures, this informative session will survey common challenges, present strategies for balancing access with resource protection, and introduce best practices for regular policy review and updates. Considerations will also include handling print, digital, and multimedia materials, along with best practices for packaging and transmitting items securely and efficiently.

Adebola Fabiku is the Department Head of Access Services at North Carolina State University Libraries, providing leadership and management for the department. She previously held leadership roles at the University of Washington and Wheaton College. In addition, she has also worked in public services in the public library setting. Adebola is committed to equitable access to library resources and advocates for retaining and supporting BIPOC library staff and student workers through empathetic leadership. She champions diversity at all university levels. She holds an MS in Library and Information Science and a BS in Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
