The first four volumes of the Encyclopedia of Camps & Ghettos, 1933–1945 (ECG), published by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, are now available online in a fully searchable, open access digital format. This landmark resource draws on more than 25 years of collaborative scholarly work, involving over 700 historians, archivists, and researchers, which documents thousands of Nazi persecutory sites across Europe and beyond.
This resource provides:
- Broad access to primary and secondary sources: ECG contains eyewitness testimony, diaries, memoirs, archival material, and more, from a variety of languages and source types.
- Enhanced research tools: With cross-volume search capability and an interactive map, you can explore and connect entries in ways that were previously much harder.
- Continuous updates: As work continues on the remaining volumes (volumes V-VII), newly discovered content and updated scholarship will be added.
For librarians whose work involves history, memory studies, social justice, education, or archival practices, this is a tremendously valuable resource. Members are encouraged to explore it, integrate it into their teaching or research, or share it with colleagues who may benefit.
