We Are Family: Apple (iOS) E-reading Devices and Apps

In the e-book world, Apple provides not just e-books, but also e-readers devices such as iPhone, iPod and iPad. In this course, we’ll look at everything “e-book” in the Apple family: their e-reading platform, their apps, and how to download content from Amazon and Barnes and Noble stores, the Apple store, as well as free sites and library e-book sites to your Apple device.

"We Are Family" series:
Based on customer feedback, we have created this series of e-book/e-reader courses. We designed it so you can learn to use specific devices and then delve into other organizational issues like collection development, marketing, and policy development. We have a suggested order (note the Related Courses section below), but you may take any course at any time.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify current Apple devices compatible with e-book content
  • Troubleshoot compatibility of e-collections with Apple devices
  • Identify available apps for e-reading
  • Demonstrate how to download an e-book from Barnes and Noble
  • Demonstrate how to download an e-book from Amazon
  • Demonstrate how to download and e-book from a free collection

Target Audience
Any staff in libraries responsible for implementing or supporting e-reader services

Prerequisites
None; bring an Apple device if you have it.
Preferred: Overview of Hardware and E-Collections for E-Readers in Libraries (Live Online)

Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements
This is an interactive course and participants will be required to attend all sessions and complete homework assignments in order to earn Continuing Education credit.

It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
