RDA News: Toolkit First-User Subscription Now Free to Amigos Members; Upcoming Training Scheduled

Since April 1, 2013, the Library of Congress and U.S. National Library of Medicine have been using Resource Description and Access (RDA) as their official descriptive cataloging standard. Now that RDA is fully implemented in these national libraries, are you and your organization ready?

Amigos can help.

To support the adoption of this new cataloging standard, Amigos is excited to announce it will now cover the cost of an RDA Toolkit subscription with one simultaneous user. This benefit is offered to all Amigos members. Details are available on the Amigos website.

Training
To help you get trained on RDA, Amigos has scheduled additional sessions of the popular "Cataloging with RDA." This eight-hour live online class walks you through the basics of moving from AACR2 to RDA that include:

  • Distinguishing between work, expression, manifestation, and item
  • Building descriptions of resources using RDA Core elements
  • Creating authorized access points using preferred names for persons, families, and corporate bodies, and preferred titles for works
  • Articulating relationships between works, expressions, manifestations, and items, and between resources and persons, families, and corporate bodies using RDA vocabularies
  • Using the RDA Toolkit and workflows to identify rules relevant to describing resources and creating access points
