District Dean of Libraries -- Howard College -- Big Spring, TX

Summary Statement:
Responsible for the comprehensive management of library resources for the Howard County Junior College District (HCJCD). Support instructional function of the HCJCD through professional administration of the library facilities, materials, staff, and services. Assist in supervision and evaluation of Library staff on all sites in coordination with site supervisor. Work directly with administration, faculty, and students to develop the resources and services of all Library programs for maximum utilization by the academic community.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support instructional function of the HCJCD through professional administration of the facilities, materials, staff, and services of the libraries.
  • Formulate Library policies/procedures and recommend these policies to the Big Spring Dean of Instruction.
  • Supervise the facility and operation of the Howard College – Big Spring Library.
  • Assist in supervision and evaluation of Library staff on all sites in coordination with site supervisor.
  • Develop, monitor, and approve all expenditures of the Library budgets.
  • Plan for short and long-range development of Library services.
  • Work directly with administration, faculty, and students to develop the resources and services of all Library programs for maximum utilization by the academic community.
  • Act as professional liaison to national, state, and local organizations for coordination and exchange of resources, services, and ideas.
  • Compile and submit required reports to federal, state, and professional agencies.
  • Serve on district committees and councils where contributions are deemed appropriate.
  • Encourage professional growth and continuing education for self and staff members through participation in meetings, workshops, conferences, and special activities.
  • Provide instruction in the use of the library and other learning/information resources.
  • Schedule and present library orientations as requested by faculty.

Experience and other qualifications required:

  • Master's degree in Library Science required. Additional education recognized. Ten (10) years related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of current library and information technology equipment required.

Salary Range: $63,056 - $70,612
