Position Title: Medical Informatics Librarian

Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word is seeking a Medical Informatics Librarian to provide instruction and research support to the students, faculty, and staff at the School of Osteopathic Medicine campus of the University of the Incarnate Word, as well as assisting with the health sciences librarian needs for other campuses served by UIW Libraries.
The SOM Library, located at Brooks City Base, is part of UIW Libraries. Working under direction of the Director of the School of Osteopathic Medicine Library, the Medical Librarian will contribute to the mission of UIW Libraries of advancing teaching, learning, research, and scholarship within the SOM learning community. This position may work evenings and/or weekends. This position is considered a "Responsible Employee" under Title IX federal regulations and "Mandatory Reporter" under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Job Duty Name: Reference and User Support
Description of Job Duties

  • Provide reference and research consultation services to students and faculty using all communication modalities;
  • Conduct literature searches for UIWSOM faculty;
  • Create and maintain Libguides for the School of Osteopathic Medicine learning community and other assigned liaison areas;
  • Stay abreast on emerging trends and developments in librarian support and inclusion in academic medicine

Description of Job Duties

  • Under the direction of the Director and in partnership with faculty, develop learning-outcomes aligned information literacy instruction and learning artifacts;
  • Under the direction of the Director, develop and promote services, resources, and co-curricular supports of the SOM Library;
  • Design instruction modules utilizing library resources and develop assessments as to their effectiveness;
  • Provide individual, group, and classroom instruction to learners;
  • Provide support to other health sciences campuses as needed

Description of Job Duties

  • Under the direction of the Director, capture statistics and other assessments to inform the continuous improvement process of the SOM Library and work with the Learning Assessment Librarian to develop and capture appropriate metrics

  • Under the direction of the Director, work in collaboration with other UIW Health Professions Librarians

Required Education: Masters Degree from an ALA accredited library and/or information science program
Required Work Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience developing and delivering information literacy within an academic library setting or a medical library;
  • Experience in searching health sciences databases;
  • Demonstrated experience developing and teaching information literacy and research methodologies in support of health / science related disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of prior experience developing and delivering information literacy and reference within an academic library setting or a medical library;
  • Directly related experience working for a School of Medicine Library
