The Librarian provides complex original and copy cataloging for theses, dissertations, rare and archival materials and multimedia materials, including audio, video and digital files. Analyzes and provides descriptive physical and subject metadata using national cataloging standards (AACR2), RDA and Library of Congress subject headings and classification.
Provides descriptive metadata for newly arrived materials, using OCLC Connexion software to search and download appropriate records in the library management software, ALMA, and performs subsequent modifications to records. Catalogs all multimedia formats, including CDs, music CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and streaming audios/videos for the media collection. Creates, maintains, and improves the bibliographic, holdings and item records for both general collections and special collections. Handles batch-editing and loading records into Alma from various vendors.
Produces original born-digital bibliographic records for master’s theses and dissertations produced at the University of Texas at Dallas using Vireo, and uploads records to OCLC national bibliographic database, the Texas Digital Library, and local catalog, ALMA to increase exposure to the intellectual output of the University.
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; experience in working with an integrated library system, preferably ExLibris’ Alma; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Previous cataloging experience. Previous experience using ExLibris’ ALMA preferred.
