Responsibilities

  1. Perform advanced-level copy cataloging of materials to update, enhance, or modify existing bibliographic and item records in the catalog and to synchronize holdings in the OCLC database
  2. Apply knowledge of cataloging rules, the OCLC database, and local cataloging policies and procedures in order to maintain catalog integrity
  3. Create original cataloging records

Requirements

  • Experience and utilization of the following cataloging tools:
    • AACR2, 2nd edition and RDA
    • MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data
    • OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification and Library of Congress Subject Headings
  • Previous experience with functionalities of an integrated library catalog, preferably ExLibris Alma
  • Experience cataloging foreign-language materials
  • Requires significant decision-making and independent judgment
  • Ability to produce high quality and quantity of work
  • Attention to detail and stamina to handle heavy workload

Qualifications

  1. Completion of a Master’s Degree program in Library/Information Management from an ALA accredited school or relevant cataloging experience working in a library

Physical Requirements

  1. Occasionally lifting and carrying materials (up to 25 lbs) to and from carts and shelves
  2. Kneeling / reaching, gripping, and retrieving / shelving books from 2"-5" above ground
  3. Pushing loaded book carts

Flexible hours (24 – 40/week)
