Providing the Content Students, Researchers and Practitioners Need – 2 New Papers from Geological Society

The Geological Society of London is a global leader in Earth and Environmental Science publishing and the UK national society for geosciences. We are the oldest geological society in the world, and today, we are a world-leading communicator of Earth science- through scholarly publishing, library and information services cutting-edge scientific conferences, education activities and outreach.

Lyell Collection: GSL offers annual subscriptions to our highly ranked Lyell Collection an online collection comprising the Geological Society’s journal titles, Special Publication Ebooks, and unique content relevant to active earth science programs. With more than 290,00 peer-reviewed pages, 29,000 articles and 1,000 volumes.

We're sharing two new papers:
Exciting new research from the Journal of the Geological Society, with two papers exploring the site of the biggest meteorite impact to hit the UK, 1.2 billion years ago.

The Stac Fada Member deposits near the village of Stoer are strange to a geologist's eyes: greenish-grey rocks flecked with fragments of glass squeezed and folded in between blocky layers of the Torridonian sandstone that characterises the area. How did they get there?

For years, the best explanation was volcanism, which fits with the presence of glassy minerals in the rocks, but even then, the intricacies of the rocks defied easy interpretation...but now that has all changed... Find out more about this fascinating research ...
