Job Description Summary
The First Year Experience and Distance Learning Librarian is primarily responsible for coordination of First Year library instruction, activities, and services, as well as library services for distance learning students and faculty. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to explore a variety of directions for professional growth and development.

Reports to: Library Director

Hours: M-F, day shift, with exception of one evening a week, one day on location of RSU Pryor Library (fall and spring semesters only), and weekend hours in rotation

FSLA: Exempt, Professional, full-time

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Experience and aptitude for teaching information literacy in an academic library;
  • Experience and aptitude for teaching research skills to first year students;
  • Knowledge of online learning techniques including the ability to design library tutorials, videos, and learning objects;
  • Knowledge of trends and services in academic libraries to support first year experience programs;
  • Experience and aptitude for providing in-person and digital instruction and presentations;
  • Establish and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students;
  • Capacity to thrive in an ambiguous, future-oriented environment and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities;
  • Demonstrate strong public service orientation and proficiency in all modes of reference service and research consultation with diverse user groups;
  • Ability to work well in a team as well as individually;
  • Familiarity with the Library of Congress Classification Systems, ILS, and online catalog functions.

Preferred Qualification Summary

  • Minimum one-year experience in an academic library

Required Degree

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program

Licenses and Certifications: None

Essential Duties

  • Teach library instruction for first year and orientation classes for RSU Libraries;
  • Teach library instruction at Bartlesville and Pryor Campuses;
  • Serve as an expert on issues relating to first-year students, first generation students undergraduate retention, and student success;
  • Represent RSU Libraries on committees and in campus-wide discussions regarding first year students;
  • Coordinate library services, activities, and initiatives related to distance learning;
  • Serve as primary contact person and provide library support for faculty and students from online education, as well as from Bartlesville and Pryor campuses;
  • Create new and update existing Adobe Captivate tutorials for distance learners;
  • Design and prepare instructional library materials to engage diverse user groups;
  • Collaborate with faculty to design customized research assignments and/or class content framed around library resources as requested;
  • Coordinate library participation in campus orientation activities;
  • Promote first year and transfer student success and retention through collaboration with campus academic and student services programs and offices in concert with Outreach Librarian;
  • Coordinate with Outreach Librarian to plan and deliver experimental and innovative library activities and services that target and improve first-year student retention and student success;
  • Work closely with other librarians in the creation, implementation, and assessment of first-year information literacy learning objectives;
  • Collaborate with Center for Teaching and Learning’s Instructional Designer, as needed, regarding instructional design for online/hybrid teaching and learning;
  • Create and maintain subject and research LibGuides.
