Job Description: Northern Arizona University is looking for a skilled, service-oriented, and forward-thinking Electronic Resources Librarian conversant with current issues and trends in scholarly publishing to shape the future of our electronic resources and serials operations. Reporting to the Head, Content, Discovery, and Delivery Services, the Electronic Resources Librarian will lead the library’s electronic resources and serials team; acquire, license, manage, and support Cline Library’s collection of electronic resources; oversee management of a small collection of print serials; assess the value and impact of electronic collections; and work collaboratively with library staff, vendors, and campus IT staff to ensure convenient, seamless, and uninterrupted access to electronic resources. The Electronic Resources Librarian will also represent NAU in consortial projects with other Arizona universities. If you are the successful candidate, you will join a recently-reorganized department that includes (in addition to electronic resources) acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, document delivery services, course reserves, library systems management, and physical processing. Recent strategic planning with the university community has identified important new library goals that include an emphasis on affordable and accessible course content, the implementation of Ex Libris Leganto, an evaluation of collections management and budgeting, campus and online student success, and new programs that support and advance the university’s research excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for rank of Assistant Librarian:

  • ALA-accredited graduate degree from a library and information science program or an advanced degree in a related field
  • One year of electronic resources work experience in an academic library or similar setting
  • One year of supervisory experience

To be considered for rank of Associate Librarian: All of the above qualifications AND:

  • 6 years or more effective, successful experience as a librarian in an academic library or similar setting
  • A sustained record of scholarly and/or creative activities
  • A record of service that shows a pattern of sustained service to the profession and a university community, and the potential to assume a leadership role within the profession

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with electronic resources management throughout the electronic resources lifecycle, including acquisition, implementation, support, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, including (but not limited to) users, library staff, and vendors. Ability to communicate specialized, technical information clearly and understandably to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience supervising full-time staff, including hiring, goal setting, performance management, and formal evaluation at the individual and unit levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library systems used to provide access to electronic resources and serials and their interoperability, e.g. library management systems, discovery platforms, link resolvers, and proxy servers. Experience and/or certification in Ex Libris Alma and Primo.
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in the electronic resources market, pricing and delivery models, and scholarly publishing; knowledge of industry tools, standards, best practices, and initiatives related to electronic resource management, including MARC, Open URL, COUNTER, SUSHI, ERMI, KBART, and SERU.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize work, learn independently, and respond to changing needs.
  • Ability to work effectively in and contribute positively to a collaborative and inclusive environment that values and leverages diverse perspectives.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, managing, and negotiating license agreements.
  • Evidence of ability to learn and apply new technologies to solve problems and/or improve efficiency.
  • Experience with project management and change management.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and communicating electronic resource usage statistics and other data for decision-making and effective resource allocation.
  • Knowledge of library budget processes.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service while anticipating and supporting the information needs of university faculty, staff, and students.
