Wichita State University Libraries (UL) invites energetic, innovative, adaptable, and learner-centered professionals to apply for the Coordinator of Collection Acquisitions, with an appointment of Assistant Professor. As a member of Technical Services, this librarian reports directly to the Associate Dean for Technical Services. The Coordinator of Collection Acquisitions has primary responsibility for the operations of the Acquisitions Unit and the ongoing management of the Wichita State University Libraries’ 2.7 million dollar materials budget. The position leads the business processes for acquiring library resources, including ordering and receiving of print and electronic resources, firm orders and approvals, serials, and databases. The Coordinator of Collection Acquisitions also monitors expenditures; supports budget planning through data gathering and analysis; designs and prepares expenditure reports; maintains acquisitions records; oversees invoice payments; establishes and maintains relationships with publishers and vendors; and collaborates with Library Administration, Associate Dean for Technical Services, Coordinator of Collection Development, and Digital Resources Librarian on aspects of acquisitions. The Coordinator of Collection Acquisitions acts as liaison for business matters to other university personnel; acts as a resource regarding acquisitions policies and procedures for library staff and fulfills faculty roles within the Libraries and University. The ideal Coordinator of Collection Acquisitions will be self-motivated; detail oriented; demonstrate sound budget management abilities; and possess superior communication, interpersonal, and time management skill.
Required qualifications: Master’s (MLS, MLIS, or equivalent) from an American Library Association accredited program and at least 2 years of recent acquisitions experience in a mid-to-large academic or research library; experience with library automated systems and services; Experience with basic budgeting including budgeting planning; supervisory experience.
The successful candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of library acquisitions including well-established and emerging models of acquisitions such as approval plans, DDA, Open Access, etc.; demonstrated evidence of being detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; experience managing projects or operational activities; demonstrated ability to be flexible, embrace ambiguity, adapt to change, and successfully work both independently and collaboratively; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the ability to take initiative; demonstrated commitment to providing customer service; commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population; ability to analyze data related to acquisitions and generate reports using standard business software; must be able and eligible to work in the United States on a multi-year basis; demonstrated potential for meeting the Libraries’ tenure and promotion requirements.
The position carries a 12-month contract; excellent professional development support, vacation and benefits, including TIAA-CREF. Faculty librarians have tenure-eligible appointments with rank. Offers of employment are contingent on satisfactory completion of a criminal background check as required by the Kansas Board of Regents.
