Social Software in Libraries (on-request)

Course Description

This on-request workshop allows organizations to choose up to five social software services to be taught in this class. The focus of this workshop is to provide an overview of the services, time for hands-on within each service, and a discussion of how they are used in libraries. Services can include, but are not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LibraryThing, GoodReads, Flickr, YouTube, WordPress blogs, Feedly (RSS), Evernote, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, Google+, Delicious, Vimeo, and Zotero.

Class can be taught online or face-to-face. Amount of time and cost of the workshop will be determined by the number of services included and by the type of workshop, e.g., live online or face-to-face.

  • Examine and evaluate each service
  • Consider how libraries are using each service
  • Demonstrate basic use of each service
