Reference Sources

Knowledge of reference sources is central to providing your users with the answers they seek. This course will familiarize both librarians and paraprofessionals in a range of print and online resources from dictionaries and encyclopedias, to handbooks, serials and databases. Come learn which sources work for you and how to best use them.
 

Learning Objectives:

  • Locate key reference sources
  • Evaluate print and online reference sources for collection development
  • Demonstrate understanding of reference sources with hands on information hunts.

Target Audience:
Librarians and paraprofessionals who wish to learn new reference sources.

Prerequisites:
None

Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements:

  • There will be Assignments to be completed in class and at home.
  • It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
