Project Management in Libraries: An Introductory Course

Implementing a systematic approach to project management can drastically improve the outcomes for an initiative as well as create a more efficient workflow in information organizations. This course is designed to provide an introduction to project management strategies and implementation for the information professional. The primary focus of the course will be on the core values of project management. This course is not specific to technology project management.
 

Learning Objectives:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of project management
  • Define what makes an effective project manager
  • Identify the project life-cycle phases
  • Formulate a project plan and workflow structure
  • Assess project risk and quality assurance needs
  • Build a project communication plan
  • Evaluate strategies to manage the difficult project

Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements:

  • Students will participate in class discussion and complete individual assignments.
  • It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
