Image Editing with Photoshop Elements

Do you want to master techniques for improving scanned images or digital photograph using an inexpensive image editor? Then this workshop is for you. Photoshop elements costs less than $100 and is relatively easy to use, resulting in impressive results. This workshop will teach you how to use Photoshop Elements in Expert Mode. Topics to be covered include: Photoshop Elements overview; basic image adjustments; histograms; non-destructive editing; selecting parts of images; retouching and recomposing; editing text images; working with RAW images.
 

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe components of raster images and how they are modified during editing
  • Use histograms to assess deficiencies in digital images and propose corrections
  • Apply Photoshop Elements Resizing dialog to downsample images
  • Apply Photoshop Elements tools to correct brightness/contrast, color and sharpen images
  • Use layers to apply non-destructive edits to images
  • Apply retouching, cropping and deskewing tools to improve appearance and composition of digital images
  • Assess advantages and disadvantages of editing RAW image files, including the Adobe DNG file format

Target Audience:
Library staff and individuals working with scanned images and digital photographs in need of an introductory class on Photoshop Elements

Prerequisites:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 or 11 installed on your machine.

Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements:

  • Students will have three assignments, each consisting of multiple images to edit, using the techniques covered in each day's class. They will also have the opportunity to edit and submit one of their own images.
  • Attend three online sessions or view recordings thereof
  • It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
