Preserving Your Historical Records

This class covers the basics of proper care and storage of archives and manuscript collections.
 

Topics include:

  • an overview of deterioration causes
  • selection of folders, boxes, and other housing materials
  • processing of archives
  • providing storage for oversized materials, maps, and photographs
  • proper handling and exhibition practices
  • basic paper repair techniques
  • development of holdings maintenance policies, guidelines, and practices

Learning Objectives: 

  • Identify major causes of deterioration of archival records
  • Assess your institution's storage conditions
  • Identify appropriate storage materials
  • Design storage procedures for their archival records

Target Audience: 
Suitable for anyone with responsibilities for caring for archival records

  • It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
