Introduction to Preservation

This course is an introduction to preserving library collections. It will cover the difference between preservation and conservation and will focus on budget friendly actions that can extend the life of your library collections. Basic collection housekeeping, risk management, appropriate storage and environment, as well as an introduction to emergency preparedness will be covered.
 

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this class, the attendee should be able to:

  1. Define preservation as it applies to cultural collections.
  2. Assess the preservation needs of your collections.
  3. Create a basic risk management matrix for your collections.
  4. Choose appropriate storage for your collection.
  5. Identify resources to help you with all your preservation needs.
