Introduction to Serials Cataloging

From academic journals to popular magazines, serials make up a large portion of libraries' collections. This course will cover the basic principles of serials cataloging, to help you get those issues cataloged and available to your patrons. Topics covered include defining the nature of serials, how to copy catalog serials, how to create original serial records, and dealing with title changes.
 

Learning objectives for this session include:

  • Understand how cataloging serials differs from cataloging monographic items
  • Copy catalog a serial record
  • Create an original serial record

Target Audience:
Staff with cataloging and classification duties

None

Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements:

  • There will be a homework assignment at the end of the course.
  • It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
