Let It Go: Weeding Your Library's Collection

It's no secret that information professionals have strong opinions when it comes to weeding, but weeding your library’s collection is a vital piece of collection development. Removing an item from the library is often difficult, but weeding can make your collection more accessible and more attractive to your patrons. In this course, attendees will learn about techniques for collection assessment, including how to establish evaluation criteria that fits your library, how to develop sound weeding policies, best practices and techniques for weeding your collection, and how to communicate about the process to your staff and patrons.

  • Evaluate your library's collection
  • Develop and execute a weeding plan
  • Incorporate your weeding plan and practices into your library's collection development policy

Staff of all levels and library types involved with collection development and maintenance.
