Make Your Data Sparkle: Strategies for Data Preparation and Cleaning

Registration is closed for this event
Before we can analyze, visualize and present our data, it must be checked for quality, accuracy, and format. Frequently, the data-set needs to be modified, or "cleaned", in various ways to eliminate errors and prepare it for use. This workshop will introduce participants to common issues with removing or correcting "dirty" data, datatype formatting, quality considerations and other aspects of preparing data for use. Several free or low-cost tools will be presented to demonstrate how these issues can be resolved effectively and efficiently.

Learners will be able to:

  • Identify common sources of data "dirt" and other issues that need to be addressed in preparing data for analysis
  • Understand data cleaning and preparation in the context of the data life cycle
  • Learn about several data cleaning tools and how they are used
  • Complete a basic data cleaning exercise
