Course Description

Websites are accessible when all visitors — regardless of abilities or impairments — can access the presented information. The broad term web accessibility refers to a series of international standards that define website usability. Understand the fundamentals of web accessibility and the regulations, laws, and standards surrounding accessibility design. Utilize tools and technologies for better design and best practices for content development.

Learning objectives for this session include
  • Describe various ways people with different abilities use the web
  • Identify barriers to using the web and solutions that would improve the situation
  • Create an accessibility plan for improving navigation and use of websites

Christine Peterson portraitChristine Peterson is the Open-Source Solutions Manager at Amigos Library Services and the Founder at Christine Peterson Consulting. She's worked in diverse roles, including as a systems librarian, an automation consultant and a trainer for the Texas State Library & Archives Commission. Christine guides and implements technology and open-source services for libraries, nonprofits and businesses.
