Alice and Joe Specht: a Gentle Rivalry

It's easy to imagine what dinnertime at the Specht house must have been like. There was Alice, who recently retired as Dean of University Libraries at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX. Across the table sat husband Joe, who until retiring in 2007 served as Director of the Jay-Rollins Library at McMurry University, also in Abilene. In the middle was daughter Mary Helen, who these days teaches creative writing at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX, and is an accomplished author whose debut novel, Migratory Animals, was published in January and is now in its second printing.

2015 Fellowship and Opportunity Award Winners Announced

Each year, the Amigos Fellowship and Opportunity Award Program awards up to $10,000 to library and information professionals in Amigos member libraries to fund development projects.

Amigos Fellowship Award to Help UALR Library Bring GIS to Students, Community

At the May 13 Amigos Member Business Meeting, the Amigos Board of Directors announced the recipients of the 2015 Amigos Fellowship and Opportunity Award. Among those receiving funds was the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) for its project entitled "Developing a GIS Resource Service at a Community-Engaged Metropolitan University."
