Don’t miss these exciting sessions at "Going Out of Bounds with Reference Services"

During our February 11 online conference, Going Out of Bounds with Reference Services, we will discover how libraries have embedded reference services into their communities, bringing information assistance to information seekers in unique ways. We are offering a variety of experiences, including public, academic, and special libraries. Two innovative examples of these offerings include the sessions "Reaching Out: Building Campus Partnerships to Connect with First-Gen Students" and "Get App Happy: Utilizing Apps to Enhance Reference and Information Services."

In "Reaching Out: Building Campus Partnerships to Connect with First-Gen Students," librarians Carlos Duarte, Julie Arensdorf, and Heather Shimon will present their methods, successes, failures, and the story of the evolution an outreach project for the Center for Educational Opportunity (CeO). The CeO promotes access to resources, academic achievement, and personal growth for first-generation college students, students who meet specific federal family income guidelines, and students with documented disabilities.

In "Get App Happy: Utilizing Apps to Enhance Reference and Information Services," Jennifer Koenig Johnson will discuss how, since most people have access to smartphones, library professionals must utilize app technology in the reference interview in order to reach their patronage. Over the past decade, reference and information services have radically transformed from the traditional reference desk-based service into a point-of-need service in which reference librarians utilize print, electronic, and mobile technologies. This presentation will discuss app evaluation criteria, some of the best apps for reference services, and how exactly librarians can use apps during the reference interview.

Each session will run 45 minutes. The deadline for Early Bird discounted registration is January 29, 2016. As an added benefit of Amigos membership, all Amigos online conferences are free of charge to the staff of Amigos member institutions.
