In the e-book world, Amazon provides not just e-books, but also e-readers and tablets. In this course, we’ll look at everything “e-book” in the Amazon family: their e-readers and tablets, their apps, and how to download content from their own store, as well as free sites and library e-book sites.

"We Are Family" series:
Based on customer feedback, we have created this series of e-book/e-reader courses. We designed it so you can learn to use specific devices and then delve into other organizational issues like collection development, marketing, and policy development. We have a suggested order (note the Related Courses section below), but you may take any course at any time.

Learning Objectives: 
  • Identify current Amazon Kindle devices/apps compatible with e-book content
  • Troubleshoot compatibility of e-collections with Kindle devices/apps
  • Identify available apps for e-reading
  • Demonstrate how to download an e-book from Amazon
  • Demonstrate how to download an e-book from a free e-book site
  • Demonstrate how to download an e-book from an OverDrive collection
Target Audience: 
Any staff in libraries responsible for implementing or supporting e-reader services
Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements: 
  • This is an interactive course and participants will be required to attend all sessions and complete homework assignments in order to earn Continuing Education credit.
  • It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.

This course consists of two 2-hour sessions.
