2010 Fellowship Application Information
Purpose
Among the purposes set forth in the bylaws of Amigos Library Services, are promoting cooperative activity among all member libraries of Amigos and assisting in the development of the full potential of libraries or groups of libraries in the network through planning, research, and development. (Amigos Bylaws, dated 9/14/78). In addition, the mission of Amigos is to provide innovative information services to libraries, promote regional library cooperation and resource-sharing, and strengthen libraries’ leadership role as education and information providers. The success of any organization depends upon people. Thus, the Amigos Fellowship Program has been established to foster the development of library and information professionals in Amigos member libraries and is consistent with Amigos’ purposes and mission.
Emphasis
The Fellowship will be awarded to one or more persons, per year, to encourage development of and assist with an individual project. The project may be for research, demonstration or educational purposes. The primary criterion for making an award will be the proposed project’s significance as a contribution to library cooperation and/or technology applications, and its benefit to other libraries in these two areas.
Funding
Funds may be used to pay for project costs including but not limited to travel; tuition for educational classes, institutes, or workshops (including Amigos courses); computer time; or released time from work. Funds may not be used for capital expenditures or library operating costs. Up to $7,500 may be requested. More than one project may be funded depending on the competitiveness of the proposals.
Reporting
Projects and Final Reports must be completed within two (2) years of the award date. Reports will be posted on the Amigos web site. Fellowship recipients may publish the reports in other media; however, Amigos must be acknowledged for supporting the project. Recipients may combine the Amigos Fellowship award with other grant, institutional, or personal support to finance the project.
Deadlines
The deadline for applications for the nineteenth annual Amigos Fellowship is March 1, 2010. Awards will be announced at the Spring 2010 Amigos Membership Meeting. Applicants who desire feedback on their proposal before it is final can submit a draft proposal for review and comment any time prior to January 15, 2010. Comments will be returned within two weeks.
