Know & Go: How to Salvage Wet Books

Wet books happen—whether by spills, leaks, seeps or flood; maybe one book at a time or an entire shelf. This presentation introduces the main components involved in the recovery of wet books and will cover the best practices for salvaging various types of books. Emphasis will be on in-house techniques of minimal cost.
 

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the main methods of recovery involved in salvaging wet books.
  • Categorize wet books by priority.
  • Recall and apply salvage techniques for various types of books.
  • Discriminate between books that can and cannot be salvaged.

Target Audience:
Circulation librarians, ILL librarians, stacks supervisors and other staff and volunteers in libraries.
