Beginning SEO: How to Help Google Help You

In order for library websites to build a visible web presence and increase traffic to their websites, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) should be a part of their growth strategy. SEO is the practice of attempting to ensure high-ranking placement in the search results of Google and other search engines.

In this course, we will explore the basics of SEO, how it works, and how it has evolved over the years. We will cover technical basics, content best practices, and dispel common myths about SEO. Finally, we will focus on two key areas that can prove pivotal to libraries and other location-based services: Local SEO and Mobile SEO.

Learning Objectives:

  • Name the key pillars of SEO
  • Identify key SEO opportunities for libraries
  • Relate SEO opportunities/objectives internally

Target Audience:
Library webmasters and content creators, as well as librarians seeking to improve foot traffic through online channels.

Prerequisites:
Attendees should have familiarity with Web browsers, the Internet, and Google services. Basic HTML experience is preferred.
