Balancing and Embracing Change: Strategies for Preparing Staff in the Library

Libraries are constantly changing and adapting for many reasons. Managers, however, are not always sure how to help their staffs understand and embrace the upcoming changes. This course is designed to help you learn strategies for a successful transition, identify potential pitfalls, and anticipate staff response to a pending change in your library.
 

Learning Objectives:

  • List the main drivers of change in libraries
  • Interpret and predict how staff react to change
  • Examine how the different staff roles impact the implementation of change in an organization
  • Determine methods to get all levels of staff involved in bringing forth change
  • Develop and plan a consistent approach to proposing change in your library
  • Discuss and evaluate the success of the change once fully implemented

Target Audience:
Librarians and managers who need to prepare library staff for adapting to change.

None

Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements:

  • Students will participate in class discussion and complete individual assignment.
  • It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
